Kazakhstan expands computing capacity and explores robotaxis

·1 min read

Kazakhtelecom, Kazakhstan’s largest telecommunications company, has deployed 400 NVIDIA H200 and 480 NVIDIA B300 GPUs in Astana and Almaty. Next year, it plans to deploy more than 1,000 GPUs in the Data Center Valley, alongside more than 1,000 NVIDIA Vera Rubin GPUs in the Ekibastuz region. The expansion is intended to support workloads for enterprises, developers and institutions.

In parallel, inDrive and Pony.ai are collaborating to explore robotaxi services in Kazakhstan, with Astana designated as the first deployment city. The companies will assess the feasibility of bringing Pony.ai’s seventh-generation robotaxis to the inDrive app. The proposed service would use NVIDIA AI infrastructure built on the NVIDIA Hyperion sensor and compute platform with the NVIDIA Halos safety system.

The developments reflect a shift from infrastructure planning toward deployment across Kazakhstan’s AI ecosystem. Additional local computing capacity gives companies and developers more scope to train, fine-tune and serve models. Connecting that infrastructure with universities, startups and industries could support useful applications, while successful products could generate further demand for computing resources.
