Utsuro brings Xbox One games to Apple devices without hardware emulation
A developer known as levi on X has announced Utsuro, an early-stage project for running Xbox One games on Apple devices. A demonstration shows Minecraft: Xbox One Edition running on iOS with touchscreen controls. The project’s GitHub page reports around 36 to 60 FPS for Minecraft on the Mac build. Sonic Mania is listed as playable at around 57 FPS with sound, while Rocket League renders and supports driving at roughly 15 to 20 FPS, but has dark lighting and no audio yet.
Rather than emulating console hardware, Utsuro uses FEXCore to run the Xbox One’s Windows-based software layer as x86-64 code on Apple’s Arm chips, supplying system components normally provided by the console. Graphics use Apple’s Metal API, with Direct3D 11.X shaders converted to Metal’s shader language. Audio runs through CoreAudio.
Installation remains technically demanding. The iOS app must be sideloaded and requires a JIT helper such as StikDebug, TrollStore, or a jailbroken device, along with a decrypted game dump. The macOS version currently needs to be built from source.
