SK hynix sees memory shortage lasting through 2030

·1 min read

SK hynix expects the current memory shortage to continue through the end of 2030, according to CEO Kwak Noh-Jung. Speaking after the company broke ground on a new Indiana packaging facility, Kwak said there are no clear signs of a slowdown yet.

Any eventual cooling in the market is expected to come through gradual easing rather than the sharp price crashes seen in past memory cycles. SK hynix had previously projected tight supply lasting through 2028 for commodity DRAM, making the latest outlook a longer forecast for constrained availability.

Kwak attributed the shift to memory products becoming less like pure commodities. AI-driven demand has pushed customers toward customized DRAM and HBM configurations, giving manufacturers better visibility into future demand and reducing the risk of sudden oversupply swings.
