NVIDIA backs Upscale AI’s mixed-chip networking platform
NVIDIA has invested in Upscale AI, whose Token Fabric networking platform is designed to connect accelerators from NVIDIA, AMD, Intel and Chinese chipmakers. The investment positions NVIDIA to supply infrastructure for mixed-vendor computing environments as cloud providers seek alternatives to single-supplier procurement. NVIDIA participated in a $190 million additional financing round in June 2026, led by Premji Invest.
Token Fabric separates tightly coupled accelerator connections within racks from the backbone linking computing clusters. Its SkyFabriX switching chip supports the open UALink and ESUN interconnection standards, while the cross-cluster network uses NVIDIA’s Spectrum-X Ethernet technology. SkyOS and SkyCMD software handle network monitoring, component health alerts and traffic scheduling. The initial release is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026, with the complete platform rolling out in phases in 2027.
The platform targets large public cloud providers and emerging computing cloud operators seeking more reliable hardware supply and stronger purchasing leverage. However, connecting different accelerators does not resolve incompatible memory architectures, software tools or communication methods. Customers must still undertake substantial model adaptation and scheduling work. Dependence on Spectrum-X also leaves a question about vendor neutrality: support for competing backbone networks would offer broader choice, while exclusive reliance on NVIDIA would preserve network-level dependence despite opening accelerator access.
