Adobe agrees to buy Topaz Labs

·1 min read

Adobe has agreed to acquire Topaz Labs, maker of AI tools for sharpening, upscaling and restoring images and video. The companies signed a definitive agreement but did not disclose the price. Adobe plans to bring Topaz Labs’ models into Firefly, Firefly Services and Creative Cloud apps including Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere, while keeping Topaz products available as standalone offerings.

Topaz Labs’ tools are used for professional filmmaking, documentary restoration, social content, photography and archival work, with products including Topaz Photo, Topaz Video, Topaz Gigapixel, Astra and Bloom. The company says millions of customers use its software, including 20 of the world’s 50 largest companies, and it won a 2025 Emmy for its video technology.

A key asset is Neurostream, technology that lets large AI models run locally on consumer devices instead of relying only on cloud systems. Adobe framed the acquisition as a way to improve quality and control as creators combine captured and generated media. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to regulatory approval and the usual conditions, with Topaz Labs chief executive Eric Yang continuing to lead the team.
