SAP expands agent tools, governance and business data capabilities

·1 min read

SAP announced updates at SAP TechEd to help developers build, connect and govern AI agents across SAP and third-party systems. Joule Studio offers no-code and pro-code development with more than 70 AI models, while early adopters can design and run n8n workflows. New Joule Work capabilities are designed to plan and coordinate complex business processes, with open protocols supporting collaboration between agents.

Governance additions include a controlled gateway for third-party agents and SAP Enterprise AI Gateway for authentication, policy enforcement, monitoring and auditing. An AI Governance Assistant is intended to help customers meet EU AI Act requirements. Joule Studio also gains visibility into agent behavior, model usage and spending. For select customers, running custom agents on its SAP-managed runtime will remain free through December 2026.

SAP is expanding the data foundation behind these tools through an ontology manager, Dremio lakehouse capabilities and deeper Databricks integration. The additions aim to connect business context across systems and provide unified data access without moving or copying data.

The new SAP-RPT-2.0 tabular model will add anomaly detection and embeddings-based analysis, while SAP-RPT-TS targets forecasting. In partnership with HPE, SAP plans to run SAP-RPT aboard the International Space Station to identify potential failures, reconstruct missing sensor readings and generate mission-health reports without sending data back to Earth for analysis.
