Radeon mod expands DLSS support as AMD upgrades older GPUs

·1 min read

Developer Daniel Blanco has released version 0.8.0 of DLSS NR on AMD, expanding support for Nvidia’s Neural Rendering, Super Resolution, Ray Reconstruction and Frame Generation on Radeon GPUs. Blanco describes the project as a ground-up implementation rather than a runtime translation of Nvidia code. His testing claims approximately 90 to 100 FPS at 1080p on an RX 9070 XT using the full DLSS 5 model. Compatibility remains limited, user-reported performance varies, and anti-cheat systems can block the mod. Users also need legitimately obtained Nvidia DLL files.

AMD has separately released FSR 4.1 support for older Radeon graphics cards and selected Ryzen processors through its Adrenalin 26.10.1 driver. Support extends down to the RX 6400, with the older hardware relying on shader processors rather than dedicated AI accelerators. AMD says architecture-specific optimizations enable the upgrade, although processing overhead may offset performance benefits. Handheld owners must wait for compatible manufacturer drivers. Xbox Series X and S support is planned, without a release date.

Meanwhile, Wccftech coverage citing KeyBanc analysts reports that Nvidia has secured Intel foundry capacity for Rubin gaming GPUs and AMD for client tiles. The reported work could involve GPU components or chiplets for consumer processors, but its precise scope remains unclear. Neither Nvidia nor Intel has publicly confirmed the alleged Nvidia contract, leaving the manufacturing plans unconfirmed.
