OptiScaler brings AMD FSR to Intel Arc XMX cores
The OptiScaler community has modified AMD FSR 4.1.2 to run on Intel Arc GPUs using their XMX cores, or Xe Math Extensions. The modification provides an alternative to the fallback DP4a path used by current FSR implementations on Arc, which offers significantly lower performance benefits.
Reddit user DarkerThanLpDark tested FSR 4.1.2 Lite on an Arc B580 in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The comparison included the game’s native XeSS implementation and FSR’s standard DP4a implementation. The modified version recorded an upscaling time of 0.59 ms, close to the 0.58 ms recorded by XeSS (SR).
OptiScaler aims to make upscaling and frame-generation technologies available across GPU brands, helping players when a game lacks support for their GPU vendor’s technology. The test demonstrates near-matching upscaling performance with XeSS in the tested configuration.
