Kioxia to show CXL memory expansion module for AI workloads

Kioxia will showcase the KIOXIA XL1 series, a Compute Express Link compatible memory expansion module, at FMS: the Future of Memory and Storage, taking place August 4 – 6 in Santa Clara, CA. The module uses KIOXIA XL-FLASH, a low-latency, high-performance flash technology intended to let flash memory serve not only storage applications but also memory expansion needs.

The company is positioning the product for hyperscale environments facing higher memory demand from AI workloads, along with capacity constraints and rising costs. The KIOXIA XL1 series combines XL-FLASH with a CXL interface and is designed to improve DRAM utilization by placing less frequently accessed data on the module, narrowing the performance and cost gap between conventional DRAM and SSDs. Evaluation samples are scheduled to ship to industry ecosystem collaborators in August 2026.
