European public sector gets practical AI adoption toolbox
Public administrations across Europe can access practical resources through the AI toolbox on the Interoperable Europe portal. Developed to support the European Commission’s Apply AI Strategy, the toolbox helps administrations identify and adapt resources for introducing AI into public services. It contributes to the strategy’s commitment to a shared repository of practical, open-source and reusable tools that support interoperability.
The toolbox covers four areas: standards and tools, public-sector use cases, skills and training, and legal and procurement guidance. Together, these resources address organisational, technical and skills challenges, with material ranging from AI assessment tools to courses, webinars and regulatory information.
Examples include OpenForm, an AI-assisted application tool offering conversational help with completing forms, uploading documents and generating PDFs. Another featured solution is F13, a generative AI text assistant introduced by Baden-Württemberg’s public administration innovation lab for document summarisation, research support and text generation. The toolbox will continue to evolve around administrations’ needs and experience. Related resources under development include the Public Sector AI and Interoperability Readiness Pathway (PAIR), intended to help administrations move from exploration to implementation.
