TSMC stands out in AI chip manufacturing
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing has become a central supplier in the AI chip supply chain by producing the advanced silicon used by major designers such as Nvidia and AMD. The company does not design the highest-profile accelerators, but its fabrication capacity supports the GPUs and related server chips powering AI infrastructure.
TSMC holds roughly 73% of the pure-play foundry market by revenue and reportedly closer to 90% of the market for the most advanced nodes. Nvidia has also become its largest customer, reflecting the shift toward high-performance computing as AI infrastructure spending accelerates. Management expects AI-accelerator revenue to compound in the mid-to-high 50% range through the end of the decade and has lifted its longer-term revenue growth outlook toward at least 25%.
The company’s recent performance reinforces that position. Full-year 2025 revenue reached about $122 billion, up nearly 36% year over year, while revenue through the first half of 2026 grew 37% year over year to $76.1 billion. Heavy capital spending remains necessary to meet demand, but customers have limited alternatives for leading-edge manufacturing at scale.
