Nvidia may back d-Matrix as AI chip market diversifies

·1 min read

Nvidia plans to invest in d-Matrix, an AI inference chip startup, according to The Information. The deal has not been confirmed by Nvidia or d-Matrix, and the size and timing have not been disclosed. The reported stake would follow similar arrangements with Marvell, Intel and Amazon as Nvidia works to keep its technology central to AI data centre buildouts.

NVLink Fusion, first unveiled in May 2025, lets non-Nvidia accelerators connect into Nvidia rack designs and networking. Marvell announced a strategic partnership with Nvidia on 31 March, while AWS said in December that its Trainium4 chips would work with NVLink Fusion. d-Matrix announced on 10 September that its next-generation Raptor processors would use the technology alongside Nvidia GPU systems such as Vera Rubin NVL72 for disaggregated inference.

The strategy gives customers a way to add specialised chips without moving away from Nvidia infrastructure. d-Matrix has drawn backing from Microsoft since a $110 million round in 2023, according to Reuters. Data Center Dynamics reported that it closed a $275 million Series C in November 2025 at a $2 billion valuation, while The Information separately reported in July that it was seeking new financing at a $5 billion valuation.
