NVIDIA agrees to acquire Hugging Face

·1 min read

NVIDIA has agreed to acquire Hugging Face, with plans to scale the platform, strengthen its infrastructure and expand access to AI for developers and institutions worldwide. Hugging Face is described as a major hub for the open model developer community, built over the past decade by Clem, Julien, Thomas and their team.

More than 18 million developers, researchers and creators use Hugging Face to share more than 3 million models, 500,000 datasets and 1 million applications. More than 200,000 companies use the platform to discover, evaluate, customize and deploy AI.

Hugging Face will remain open to the broader AI ecosystem, with developers able to choose their preferred models, frameworks, clouds, inference providers and computing platforms. NVIDIA compute will not be required to build on or deploy through Hugging Face, and the platform will continue supporting open source and open weight models, multi-cloud workflows and multi-accelerator deployment.

NVIDIA says its infrastructure, engineering and global reach can improve reliability, safety, model evaluation, inference and deployment while preserving Hugging Face’s open ecosystem. NVIDIA also points to its existing role on the platform, including more than 500 models on Hugging Face and more than 250 open datasets.
