Emory opens Claude access to students, faculty and staff

·1 min read

Emory University students, faculty and staff with active emory.edu accounts can now request Claude for Education, Anthropic’s AI platform. The rollout expands the university’s institutionally supported AI tools and supports its AI.Humanity initiative. Use is optional, with applications including learning, research, writing, analysis and brainstorming.

Standard licenses are available at no cost. Premium licenses offer higher usage allowances at $50 per license per month, funded by individual departments. The initial offering includes the Claude assistant, Projects for organizing related work, Artifacts for creating documents and other outputs, and Learning Mode for guided learning and reasoning within Projects. Claude Cowork and Claude Code are excluded from the general offering and are being evaluated through limited pilots.

Users must verify AI-generated content and follow applicable university policies. They must not enter protected health information, controlled unclassified information, identifiable student information, passwords, credentials or other restricted data. Self-guided training and responsible-use guidance are available through university resources. People with existing Claude subscriptions tied to Emory email addresses should continue using email verification rather than Emory single sign-on until the Office of Information Technology contacts them about migration.
