Claude Enterprise offers model access and effort controls
Claude Enterprise organizations can control model availability and maximum effort levels across their workforce or through custom roles. Primary Owners, Owners, and members with the Identity & Access permission can manage these settings. All models initially remain enabled at their highest effort level, so access stays unchanged until administrators adjust the controls.
Organization-wide restrictions apply to everyone, including owners and administrators. Custom roles can narrow access or lower effort caps but cannot exceed organization limits. Haiku models remain available to every member and cannot be disabled. When members have multiple custom roles, they receive access to every model permitted by those roles and the highest applicable effort cap, within organization limits.
Effort limits govern computation per response: higher settings produce more thorough responses but consume more usage. Unsupported models and effort levels disappear from the relevant menus. Conversations using a newly disabled model fall back to the member’s default when reopened, while a reduced effort cap applies to the next message.
Enforcement covers Claude chat, Cowork, Code, Claude for Microsoft 365, Claude Tag, and Claude Design, but not yet Claude in Chrome or Claude Security. Claude Code’s picker reflects restrictions on CLI version 2.1.199 or later; earlier versions still display restricted options but reject requests using them. Local Claude Code managed settings can impose additional model restrictions.
