AI emerges as a major influence on UK financial decisions
About 382,000 unadvised UK adults have used AI tools to help make financial decisions involving a total of £47.4bn, according to analysis by The Lang Cat. The findings highlight the use of AI for personal finance questions among people without a financial adviser.
The second instalment of the 2026 Advice Gap study, sponsored by Saturn, said that amount would place AI among the five most influential advisory firms in the UK. For comparison, Evelyn Partners managed £69bn and True Potential advised on £40bn. The comparison concerns money involved in AI-assisted decisions, rather than assets managed by an AI provider.
The study surveyed just over 2,000 consumers and found about a quarter had asked AI about their personal finances in the past two years. Of those, 13% had done so several times. Investments featured in queries from 31%, while 18% asked about investing for retirement and 16% about pensions more generally.
