SK hynix sees memory supply lagging demand through 2030
SK hynix expects memory demand to outpace supply through 2030, with advanced semiconductor manufacturing becoming more complex and new factories taking years to reach regular mass production. The company is expanding capacity through new fabrication plants and facilities under construction, but those investments will take time to ease supply constraints.
Memory pricing is already rising. The average selling price of memory modules in Q3 increased by over 20% compared to Q2, raising the prospect of higher consumer electronics prices as existing memory inventories run down. SK hynix expects PC and smartphone shipments to decline, but anticipates strong AI data center deployment will offset that weakness.
Long-term commitments are securing a substantial share of future output. About 14 major customers, including most hyperscalers, have signed 5-year agreements that will account for over 50% of total capacity sold for 2027 and 2028.
