Nvidia wins Modal CPU order in challenge to Intel and AMD
Nvidia has secured a CPU supply order from AI startup Modal as it expands beyond GPUs into general-purpose computing. The deal puts Nvidia’s Vera CPU in competition with Intel and AMD in the server CPU market, extending its challenge beyond graphics processors. Modal’s annual revenue is below US$1 billion, while the value of the order and the scale of the planned deployment have not been disclosed.
The agreement underscores a broader shift in AI infrastructure competition toward full-stack system integration. Nvidia’s expansion into CPUs brings general-purpose computing into that platform strategy, rather than limiting its role to GPUs. The Modal order provides a customer win for that push, although the undisclosed commercial terms leave its financial significance and deployment footprint unclear.
