Gemini leads video generation benchmark
Google Gemini ranked highest in a head-to-head evaluation of AI video generators, scoring 89.4 with Gemini Omni Flash 1.1. Dreamina followed at 88.5 and Kling at 87.5. Testing used the same 400 prompts across ten platforms, producing 4,000 clips assessed blind by professional video editors, cinematographers and animators.
Gemini led in audio and lip sync, prompt adherence and text in video. Other platforms performed best in specific workflows: Dreamina won realism, Kling led image-to-video and character consistency, Hailuo AI topped motion and physics, and Runway won editing and extending existing footage. On-screen text remained a common weakness across platforms.
Gemini also delivered the highest proportion of clips usable without changes at 71.4%, compared with 47.2% for Meta AI. Its most common flaw was unnatural hand movement. Speed and price varied considerably: Grok rendered clips in 27 seconds on average, while Dreamina took 118 seconds but supported clips up to 30 seconds long. PixVerse was the cheapest paid option at $0.06 per second.
Gemini Omni Flash 1.1 is free through YouTube Shorts and YouTube Create, but access through the Gemini app and Flow requires a paid Google AI plan. Dreamina’s Seedance 2.0 ranked next among free models with 86.4. Runway offers introductory credits rather than an ongoing free plan, while Midjourney requires a paid subscription for video generation.
