Boston Dynamics names Rohit Prasad CEO
Boston Dynamics has named Rohit Prasad, who led major AI initiatives at Amazon, as CEO as the robotics company sharpens its push into Physical AI. Prasad most recently served as Senior Vice President and Head Scientist of Amazon’s AGI division, overseeing development of the Nova generative AI model family after earlier leadership roles tied to Alexa.
The appointment aligns with Hyundai Motor Group’s plan to combine Boston Dynamics’ robot hardware with stronger AI software and real-world manufacturing, logistics, and mobility testbeds. Hyundai Motor Group acquired SoftBank’s remaining stake in July of this year to secure 100% ownership of Boston Dynamics, following its earlier acquisition of an 80% stake in June 2021.
Hyundai Motor Group aims to deploy the electric humanoid Atlas at its Georgia manufacturing facilities by 2028 and has a long-term goal of producing up to 30,000 humanoids annually. Existing platforms include Spot for industrial inspection and Stretch for logistics, while the upgraded electric Atlas has its 2026 production run fully contracted for Hyundai Motor Group’s RMAC and Google DeepMind.
