UK forum to examine AI copyright licensing and creator protections

·1 min read

Westminster Forum Projects will hold an online conference on Wednesday, 13th January 2027 to examine the next phase of UK AI and copyright policy. The agenda follows the Government’s confirmation in March 2026 that it no longer has a preferred reform option, after stepping back from a broad copyright exception for AI training with an opt-out.

Sessions will consider policy and legislation, trusted licensing markets, creator control, transparency, safeguards against unauthorised digital replicas, labelling for AI-generated content, and treatment of computer-generated works. Delegates are set to assess the Creative Content Exchange pilot, direct and collective licensing, data marketplaces, permissions, remuneration and lower transaction costs, including implications for individual creators and smaller rights holders.

Further discussion will cover training-data disclosure, audit, machine-readable permissions, crawler controls, metadata, attribution, content credentials and enforcement. The programme also addresses how requirements should apply to systems developed overseas but available in the UK, alongside alignment with EU, US and other approaches, cross-border licensing, responsible adoption and CreaTech investment.
