Trump names Jay Clayton to lead federal AI task force
President Donald Trump tapped Jay Clayton, his director of national intelligence, to lead a new government AI task force called the “Super Intelligence Force.” Trump has sought to rebrand AI as “super intelligence,” and said the group will coordinate federal efforts to keep the United States ahead in the technology while protecting Americans’ interests and improving their lives.
The move follows a White House meeting with top AI company executives, where Trump said the companies had signed a voluntary accord to self-police the technology’s development. The task force is expected to reach out to consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, critical infrastructure providers and AI companies.
Other members include Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon Chief Technology Officer Emil Michael and Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor. The group will report to Trump and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles.
