CoreWeave keeps Nvidia A100 chips in service through 2029

·1 min read

AI cloud provider CoreWeave has confirmed a long-term agreement to lease Nvidia A100 graphics processing units into 2029. CFO Nitin Agrawal disclosed the deal to financial analysts, underscoring that chips Nvidia launched in 2020 will continue supporting enterprise computing workloads nearly a full decade after their debut.

The contract pushes back against concerns that fast hardware cycles could make older AI processors obsolete in two to three years. Agrawal said the A100 deal was signed on strong financial terms and that CoreWeave has largely exhausted rental inventory across earlier-generation Nvidia processors.

Industry pricing tracker Silicon Data reported that A100 rental pricing has stabilised after a sharp recovery in 2026, suggesting high-end GPUs can remain economically useful beyond the two-to-three-year timeline cited by skeptics. Operators say newer processors remain important for training leading foundation models, while older silicon can still handle many everyday computing workloads.

The issue is increasingly important as major asset managers put more capital behind data centre infrastructure. Nvidia has announced strategic alliances with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs and KKR intended to direct more than $500 billion into infrastructure over time.
