The Weather Company offers AI copilot for newsroom forecasts

·1 min read

The Weather Company’s Weather Story Assist is an agentic AI copilot designed to help broadcast meteorologists develop local weather stories and produce content across television, streaming, web, social and mobile channels. It operates within Max Cloud and requires a subscription to that platform.

The tool draws on station forecasts, local climate context, regional sources and reference materials such as community calendars to suggest story angles, talking points and digital summaries. It can retrieve graphics, radar scenes and explainers from existing Max Cloud libraries, then adapt forecast narratives for different publishing formats. Recommendations adjust over time to reflect a station’s voice, terminology and visual guidelines.

The Weather Company says the system can help meteorologists reclaim up to 25% of their shift spent fine-tuning baseline weather models. It is positioned as a way to expand digital production without increasing staffing or duplicating work across station groups. Meteorologists must review, edit and approve scripts and visuals before publication; the system is not intended to function as an autonomous anchor.

Weather Story Assist runs in a browser and supports collaboration across stations. The company says proprietary assets, scripts and local inputs remain isolated within each enterprise’s Max Cloud environment and are not used to train third-party AI models.
