SK hynix plans new memory fabs in Yongin and Cheongju

·1 min read

SK hynix has decided to build new fabs in Yongin and Cheongju as it prepares for continued growth in memory demand in the AI era. The board approved a total investment of approximately 54 trillion, with 35.2 trillion won designated for the Yongin ‘Y2’ fab and 19.1 trillion won for the Cheongju ‘M17’ fab.

The decision follows the company’s mid-to-long-term investment strategy announced last June. SK hynix said the new projects fit within its broader master plan to invest 600 trillion won in the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster and 100 trillion won to expand its Cheongju production base. The company is already constructing its first fab in Yongin (Y1), and the latest approval starts work on subsequent fabs at both Yongin and Cheongju.
