Siemens adds self-checking agent for automation engineering

Siemens has introduced the Eigen Engineering Agent, an AI tool for industrial automation engineering that works inside the TIA Portal platform. It can write PLC code, create HMI visualizations, and configure devices while using the full project context, then checks and refines its own output until it meets quality criteria.

Pilot tests at more than 100 companies found workflows were two to five times faster than manual processes, with a 50 percent increase in engineering efficiency and an 80 percent higher quality of solutions. Siemens says the system is intended to reduce repetitive, error-prone work rather than replace engineers, freeing them to focus on system-level decisions.

New ECAD integration lets the agent read electrical schematic files in XML and AML formats, identify inconsistencies, and generate PLC data in TIA Portal from electrical topology. A standards-compliant project generation feature allows engineers to describe a machine in natural language, after which the agent creates a standardized project that can be opened in TIA Portal within a few minutes.
