Samsung targets 2029 for 1.4 nm chip production

Samsung is set to begin mass production of its 1.4 nm node in 2029, according to reports from South Korean media outlet The Bell. The company had previously aimed for 2028, but the schedule has shifted to 2029 as it expands manufacturing capacity for the 2 nm SF2 process and its derivative SF2P node.

The revised timeline puts Samsung broadly in line with rival advanced-node plans. Intel plans to start risk production of its 14A node in 2028, with high-volume production scheduled for 2029. TSMC plans to begin mass production of its A14 node in 2028, giving it a slight timing advantage over Samsung and Intel.

Samsung is also exploring High-NA EUV lithography for its 1.4 nm node, which would mark its first transition from Low-NA EUV tools in a new manufacturing process. The company has been working with domestic suppliers and international toolmakers including Applied Materials and Lam Research to secure equipment for its NRD-K semiconductor R&D hub.
