Perplexity plans to adopt Nvidia’s Vera CPU

Perplexity confirmed plans to use Nvidia’s new Vera central processing units, giving Nvidia another AI customer as it expands beyond its core AI-specific chips. The move puts Nvidia more directly against Intel and Advanced Micro Devices in the established CPU market, where chips are used across devices from laptops to web servers.

Nvidia has said it expects to generate $20 billion in sales from Vera by the end of this fiscal year. The CPU is part of a broader effort to diversify sales as AI companies including OpenAI and DeepSeek develop their own chips.

Perplexity Vice President for Computer Enterprise and Infrastructure Nate Kupp said Nvidia’s CPU performed AI agent coding tasks about 1.5 times faster than traditional CPUs. Kupp described Vera as a strong fit for Perplexity’s core workloads, though the company declined to disclose how many chips it plans to buy. Nvidia has previously said OpenAI, Anthropic and Oracle also plan to use its CPUs.
