Ocrolus adds fraud detection for mortgage customers

·1 min read

Ocrolus is making Ocrolus Detect available to every mortgage customer at no added cost, adding fraud screening for bank statements, pay stubs and tax forms directly into its lending workflow platform. Underwriters can review results in Ocrolus or through the Encompass embedded viewer, where mortgage files are already reviewed.

The company said JMAC Lending is using Detect across every file in its Encompass pipeline and stopped nearly $2 million in fraudulent loan volume in its first months of use. In one case, the tool flagged a bank statement showing a $300,000 deposit in an account that held $1,200. Ocrolus said 12% of loan applications processed through its systems across lending types contain suspicious activity.

Detect now incorporates Ocrolus’ integration with Resistant AI to identify documents created or edited with generative AI, checking both document content and file history. Each document receives an authenticity score and reason codes, including signals such as edited text, unreconciled balances or post-creation file changes, supporting explainability under Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae AI governance requirements.

Ocrolus said its broader mortgage suite is also gaining adoption, with 40 lenders signing up for Ocrolus Inspect in the past 90 days. The company said its platform analyzes roughly 750,000 credit applications each month and is used by over 500 customers.
