Nvidia takes Vera CPU into Intel and AMD territory
Nvidia has entered the CPU market with Vera, a processor designed for the AI agent era and now slated for deployment by Perplexity. The company projects Vera could generate $20 billion in revenue by the end of the current fiscal year, positioning the chip as a direct challenge to the $200 billion server CPU market long dominated by Intel and AMD.
Perplexity said Vera fits workloads where AI agents continuously write code, execute tasks, and manage complex workflows without the usage patterns of human operators. Nate Kupp, Perplexity’s vice president of enterprise computing infrastructure, said internal tests showed Vera completed AI agent coding tasks 1.5 times faster than comparable x86 server processors, while parallel sandbox launch speeds improved by up to 1.9 times. Nvidia said the chip uses 88 custom Olympus cores, supports Armv9.2, and includes NVLink-C2C interconnect capability for data center workloads.
OpenAI, Anthropic, and Oracle also plan to adopt Nvidia’s CPU, according to the report. Investors reacted sharply after the announcement: Intel fell 9.66%, AMD dropped 6.51%, and Nvidia rose 0.71% to close at $196.93. Separately, NEC plans to use Anthropic’s Claude model for an AI service that automates product planning and sales strategy development for enterprises.
