Nvidia details Vera CPU for AI data centers
Nvidia’s Vera CPU marks its first major attempt to become a central player in the data center CPU market. Grace has gained traction, including standalone deployments at Meta, but Vera is the company’s first CPU with a custom core design.
The chip is arriving as demand for server CPUs grows alongside agentic AI infrastructure needs. Rather than focusing only on taking share from AMD and Intel in existing cloud environments, Vera is positioned for a broader market as hyperscalers expand AI infrastructure beyond legacy clouds.
Vera uses a design approach that differs from Nvidia’s x86 competitors and includes architectural choices that stand apart from other Arm-based designs. Nvidia has released more details as the chip moves toward general availability in H2 2026, including a white paper and unofficial SPEC CPU 2026 results comparing Vera with AMD’s Turin-based Epyc 9755. The chip features 88 cores and 176 threads.
