NVIDIA brings DGX GB300 system online at Naval Postgraduate School

NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang commissioned an NVIDIA DGX GB300 system at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, bringing large-scale AI computing onto the campus of the U.S. military’s flagship graduate university. The system, paired with NVIDIA Mission Control software, gives NPS’s more than 1,500 in-resident students and 600 faculty on-premises capacity for model training and inference across weather prediction, cybersecurity, disaster resilience and response planning.

The deployment builds on an NVIDIA AI Technology Center at NPS and extends a collaboration focused on AI research, graduate instruction and applied defense-related work. NVIDIA’s Deep Learning Institute is also providing instructor toolkits so faculty can incorporate AI across graduate curricula. Admiral Samuel Paparo, commander of the U.S. Pacific Command, said access to advanced computing would help students and faculty understand both the opportunities and responsibilities of the technology.

NPS plans to use the system for foundation model training, high-fidelity simulations and practical tools for domains such as ocean science, autonomy and operations planning. Researchers are applying AI to sea-condition modeling, atmospheric prediction and digital twins, including work with MITRE on NVIDIA Omniverse-based simulation environments. DDN, VAST Data and Vertiv supported the deployment with data infrastructure, secure data management, racks, cooling, power and commissioning services.
