Memory capacity for 2027 is already sold out
Industry insiders say the entire memory production capacity for 2027 has been fully booked earlier than expected. Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron have reportedly sold out available output, leaving third-party buyers with no remaining supply of DRAM wafers to purchase.
OEM server makers, PC makers, and AI labs view July and August as key months for securing allocations for the following year. Some companies have not received clear public signals, however, because suppliers and customers are avoiding open discussion out of concern that allocation positions could be affected.
Memory makers are pressing customers into long-term agreements running from three to five years, backed by an advance payment deposit model that effectively requires customers to pre-pay for capacity. The deals are negotiated individually, giving priority to buyers that have already secured contracts.
Only about 60-70% of estimated demand can be met in 2027, pointing to a severe shortage for companies without signed supply agreements. Demand that cannot be served is expected to wait for 2028 supply.
