Europe’s tech incumbents gain from AI rollout

·1 min read

Europe’s established technology companies are benefiting as corporate AI spending moves from experimentation toward large-scale deployment. Rather than concentrating value only among model developers, the shift is raising demand for enterprise software, consulting, and cloud infrastructure providers that can connect AI systems with legacy software, fragmented databases, compliance frameworks, and business processes.

SAP, Capgemini, Sopra Steria, and OVHcloud have reported signs of stronger demand tied to implementation. SAP reported a 26% increase in its cloud backlog, while Capgemini and Sopra Steria upgraded their outlooks after stronger bookings and consulting demand for AI integration, governance, and data management services.

The next phase of competition is increasingly centered on applications and deployment rather than foundation models. As companies use multiple AI models across finance, supply chains, human resources, and customer operations, European firms with experience in enterprise systems, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance are becoming more strategically important.

Demand for digital sovereignty is also supporting European cloud providers, especially in defense, aerospace, healthcare, and critical infrastructure. Long-term gains are not guaranteed, with automation potentially pressuring consulting margins, pricing competition rising among AI providers, and continued investment needed in infrastructure and software development.
