ASRock releases Radeon RX 7000 firmware amid security updates

·1 min read

ASRock has released vBIOS updates for ten Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards, joining Sapphire and GIGABYTE. Firmware version 1.0.5 appeared on its support pages on October 29. Supported models include the RX 7600 XT Challenger and Steel Legend, RX 7700 XT Challenger, RX 7800 XT Challenger and Steel Legend, RX 7900 XT Phantom Gaming and its White version, and RX 7900 XTX Phantom Gaming, Taichi and Taichi White. Installation uses ASRock’s ASRVBFlash tool on Windows.

ASRock’s descriptions list only the flash utility version, leaving the changes unspecified. The timing suggests a connection to the RDNA 3 security fix Sapphire began distributing in early October. GIGABYTE linked its releases to AMD-SN-6023, and AMD confirmed that the updates address potential security vulnerabilities, with no reported exploitation. AMD has not published the bulletin, so technical details remain unknown.

Owners should check the vBIOS section of their specific model’s support page before flashing. ASRock’s download page still advises against updating cards that operate normally, contrasting with AMD’s recommendation to install firmware as soon as it becomes available.
