AMD debuts Instinct MI400 GPUs and Helios rack platform
AMD launched the Instinct MI400 Series at its Advancing AI 2026 keynote, introducing a next-generation data-center GPU family alongside the Helios rack-scale solution. The products are based on CDNA 5, AMD’s first GPU architecture to reach the 2 nm node. The flagship Instinct MI455X uses a multi-chiplet package with 320 billion transistors and 432 GB of HBM4.
The MI400 lineup is split between the Instinct MI455X, aimed at frontier AI and AI-factory deployments, and the Instinct MI430X, designed for sovereign AI and HPC. Paired with the Helios rack, 6th Gen EPYC ‘Venice’ CPUs and AMD Pensando networking, the platform is positioned as AMD’s open answer to NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin NVL72.
CDNA 5 is described as a data-center compute architecture rather than a Radeon gaming design, though some choices may indicate the direction of AMD’s future unified gaming and compute architecture. AMD also introduced the ROCm.ai software stack and teased a client effort called ‘Gorgon Halo’.
