AMD buys Taalas to strengthen AI inference

·1 min read

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has agreed to acquire Toronto-based AI startup Taalas, adding an inference-focused company as competition intensifies with Intel and NVIDIA. The startup is privately held, and terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Taalas was founded in 2023 and emerged from stealth mode in 2024. The company has taken an unconventional approach to AI inference, giving AMD another potential asset as chipmakers seek stronger positions in AI infrastructure.
