AMD and Anthropic plan up to 2 gigawatts of Instinct MI450 chips

·1 min read

AMD and Anthropic announced a strategic partnership to deploy up to 2 gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs in AMD Helios rackscale solutions. The first gigawatt is scheduled to begin deployment in the first half of 2027, as Anthropic expands compute infrastructure to serve growing demand for Claude and support AI training and inference capacity.

Anthropic will deploy AMD Helios systems featuring AMD Instinct MI455X GPUs, AMD EPYC ‘Venice’ CPUs, AMD Pensando networking and AMD ROCm software. Helios is described as purpose-built for next-generation AI training and inference, with performance, efficiency and scale for demanding workloads. The rollout builds on Anthropic’s existing use of AMD Instinct MI355X GPUs and marks a broader expansion of AMD’s position in AI infrastructure.
