UEFI tool unlocks GeForce tensor performance on Windows

·1 min read

Chinese modder physicsdolphin has released nv-uefi-unlocker, a UEFI utility that removes NVIDIA’s tensor throughput restriction on GeForce RTX 20, RTX 30, and RTX 40 cards under Windows. NVIDIA limits FP16, BF16, and TF32 tensor math with FP32 accumulation to half rate on GeForce cards, while professional cards using the same silicon run at full speed. The utility removes the cap before the driver loads, without VBIOS flashing, extending an unlock previously available through Zagitta’s Linux tool.

Reported gains include an RTX 4070 Ti Super rising from 57.00 to 150.93 TFLOPS in FP16 (2.65x), with board power increasing from 227 W to nearly 292 W. An RTX 2070 reportedly climbed from 36 to around 60-63 TFLOPS. Not every card has been tested, and these results should not be treated as universal performance expectations.

RTX 20 owners must enable GSP firmware mode first, while RTX 50 is unsupported. The unlock resets whenever the system powers off, requiring the utility to run from a USB stick on each cold boot. Users must also disable Secure Boot or enroll a self-signed certificate, potentially creating compatibility problems with games whose anti-cheat requires Secure Boot.
