Linux 7.4 adds native support for Nintendo Switch 2 controllers

·1 min read

Linux kernel version 7.4 is slated for a fully stable release in January 2027, bringing native support for Nintendo Switch 2 controllers. The preliminary driver comes through patches from Vicki Pfau, who works on hardware support on behalf of Valve Software. It supports general input for Joy-Con 2, Pro Controller 2, and GameCube NSO controllers, with Bluetooth available across those controllers and USB mode supported for the Pro Controller.

Nintendo Switch 2 controllers already work extensively on Linux through Steam, but kernel-level support removes the need to route input through Steam Input. That allows the controllers to function in other game launchers without Steam remaining open.

The release is also expected to introduce a HID driver for Pulsar gaming mice that can read battery level, voltage, and charging status over wired and wireless connections. Other changes include a HID driver for the Kysona M600V2, additional sensor support for new AMD SoCs, improved trackpad handling on T2 Macs, ASUS ROG Ally power-management fixes, and better controller and lighting support for the Lenovo Legion Go S.
