ASUS brings FSR 4.1 preview to ROG Xbox Ally handhelds
ASUS has begun rolling out a preview GPU driver bringing AMD FSR 4.1 upscaling to the ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally X20. Owners can download it through Armoury Crate SE by opening Update Center and selecting Preview Updates. The release follows AMD’s announcement that support is expanding to Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs, APUs, and Xbox.
The handheld implementation uses a lighter model that ASUS says is less than half the size of the original INT8 model, designed with the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme in mind. FSR 4.1 works in over 400 games supporting FSR 3.1 or newer. To activate it, users must enable FSR in the game’s settings, add the FSR tile to Command Center, and switch it on. ASUS warns against combining it with RSR, its system-level upscaler.
Neither ASUS nor AMD has published performance figures, and the preview may contain bugs. The regular ROG Xbox Ally is due to receive support through a forthcoming GPU driver update, but no release date has been announced. Xbox Series X|S consoles will reportedly receive FSR 4.1 in the coming weeks.
