Sony patent outlines AI self-repair system for PlayStation and other devices

·1 min read

Sony has filed a patent for an AI system designed to help connected devices diagnose and resolve software problems without direct user intervention. The filing describes a cloud server that monitors hardware, uses a large language model to generate a diagnostic program tailored to a detected issue, and then either pushes a fix automatically or records the problem for later review by an engineer.

The concept applies beyond PlayStation consoles and also names Sony TVs, cameras, and headphones as possible targets. A deployed version could reduce support calls and error screens for device owners, but the approach also introduces risks if AI-generated code is not properly verified before being pushed to consumer hardware.

Safety is a central concern because the system could involve firmware-level changes generated by an AI model. The filing has already received a rejection from the USPTO examiner, leaving no certainty that it will be approved in its current form or become part of a commercial product.
