AMD plans price hikes for GPUs, chipsets and possibly CPUs

·1 min read

AMD is preparing price increases across much of its product portfolio in response to rising silicon costs from its supply chain. According to ChannelGate, the company is working on a 10% increase tied to an upstream squeeze, with GPUs, motherboard chipsets and possibly CPUs among the affected products.

Most of AMD’s silicon is manufactured by TSMC, making wafer pricing a major factor in AMD’s own costs. Reported increases in TSMC silicon wafer prices would push AMD to pass added expenses to partners and customers to maintain margins.

AMD has previously raised CPU and GPU prices due to demand and high DRAM pricing, but chipset increases would mark a notable shift for motherboard makers. If TSMC applies a 10% price hike across nodes, from 2 nm N2 to older mature nodes, AMD’s partners and end buyers are expected to absorb the difference.
