mVolt+ update pushes RTX 50-series cards beyond stock power limits
The latest mVolt+ v0.36 update adds video card power and voltage management features that appear to bypass stock power limits on some NVIDIA RTX 50-series GPUs without the usual shunt mod or a new vBIOS flash.
One r/Overclocking user claims an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 reached 700 W total power draw while scoring 16,523 points in 3DMark Steel Nomad. That is 125 W above the stock 5090 TDP of 575 W. Screenshots from the benchmark show the GPU topping out at 3,127 MHz, which is 720 MHz higher than the reference design’s 2,407 MHz clock speed.
A separate user reporting results to VideoCardz overclocked an ASUS ROG Astral NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 OC to a total draw of 680 W. The card’s stock TDP is 400 W, though it can be raised to 450 W with an official tool. The user said no shunt mod was used.
