Samsung Foundry raises wafer prices as orders climb

Samsung Foundry is raising prices across several chipmaking nodes as customer orders increase sharply, according to Reuters. In July, the company lifted pricing for its 4 nm SF4 node by about 10-15% for customers in the United States and China, while customers in Taiwan saw a smaller increase of 5-10%.

Wafers made on the 5 nm SF5 node also rose by 10-15%, and the older 8 nm SF8 node saw a 10% price hike. The SF8 increase is likely tied to NVIDIA orders for its GeForce RTX 3060, which has been reintroduced after several generations.

No price increases were mentioned for newer Samsung SF2, SF3, or related variants, suggesting demand and pricing for those nodes may already have been factored in. Reuters reports that U.S.-based customers are prioritized after Samsung’s internal SoC demand, while China-based design houses rank third and appear willing to accept higher pricing to secure foundry capacity.
