NVIDIA A100 demand stretches to 2029
CoreWeave has signed an agreement with a customer to rent NVIDIA A100 “Ampere” accelerators through 2029, a deal confirmed by NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang. The arrangement shows that AI training and inference demand is keeping even older accelerator platforms in active use as companies seek every available source of compute.
NVIDIA introduced a GA100 GPU SKU for the A100 in late 2020, with 6,912 CUDA cores and up to 80 GB of HBM2E memory. Although newer Hopper, Blackwell and Rubin generations offer major gains in efficiency, performance and memory capacity, the A100 remains useful in a market where compute availability and memory capacity are under pressure.
The older GPU likely costs less to access per hour than newer options, while still offering enough capability for some customers. CoreWeave’s rental commitment indicates that NVIDIA platforms released more than half a decade ago can retain commercial value nearly to the end of the decade.
