Nvidia’s RTX Spark weighs on AMD and Intel
Nvidia’s RTX Spark reveal at Computex in Taipei triggered a sharp market reaction among established PC chipmakers. AMD fell 1% and Intel dropped 4.5%, while Qualcomm, another PC chip supplier, slid 8%. Nvidia rose 4% and finished the day up 6%.
Nvidia said RTX Spark is built for secure, private agent workloads as well as AI, creating and gaming, bringing its technology to slim Windows laptops with all-day battery life and ultraefficient desktop PCs. The move marks a turn in Nvidia’s PC strategy, expanding beyond graphics cards into territory long served by central processing units from AMD and Intel.
Despite Monday’s declines, AMD and Intel remain sharply higher for the year. AMD is up 130% this year, while Intel has gained nearly 200%. Chris Versace of TheStreet Pro said the initial reaction reflected concern that Nvidia’s move could challenge the core PC businesses at Intel and AMD and complicate Qualcomm’s push into the market.
