Nvidia pushes Vera into $200 billion server CPU market
Nvidia is entering the data centre CPU market with Vera, a next-generation platform aimed at server chips long dominated by Intel and AMD. The company has secured AI search startup Perplexity as its first customer, extending Nvidia’s push beyond GPUs into core infrastructure for running AI agents.
Nvidia says CPUs increasingly shape AI service performance because they handle application execution, code processing and data movement when models move into live systems. Joint tests with Perplexity found Vera processed related tasks about 1.5 times faster than existing server CPUs, while parallel sandbox execution posted up to 1.9 times higher performance. The results have not yet been independently verified.
Jensen Huang described the CPU expansion at COMPUTEX in Taipei as a “strategy to reinvent the CPU market”. Nvidia estimates the global CPU market at about $200 billion, while Reuters forecast Vera could generate about $20 billion in revenue in the current fiscal year. The company is also developing Regel, a follow-on server processor for the Rosa platform, as customers and third-party benchmarks determine whether Vera can gain traction.
