Perplexity plans to adopt Nvidia’s Vera CPU

Perplexity confirmed plans to use Nvidia’s new central processing units, giving the chipmaker another customer as it expands beyond AI-specific chips. Nvidia expects to generate $20 billion in sales from its “Vera” CPU by the end of this fiscal year, positioning the processor as part of a broader effort to diversify as AI companies such as OpenAI and DeepSeek develop their own chips.

The company is moving into a CPU market long led by Intel and Advanced Micro Devices, whose processors power devices and infrastructure ranging from laptops to web servers. Nvidia is pitching Vera for emerging workloads tied to AI agents, which can carry out complex tasks continuously after receiving instructions from users.

Perplexity Vice President for Computer Enterprise and Infrastructure Nate Kupp said Nvidia’s CPU completed AI agent coding tasks about 1.5 times faster than traditional CPUs. Perplexity did not disclose how many Nvidia CPUs it plans to buy, while Nvidia has previously said OpenAI, Anthropic and Oracle plan to use its CPUs.
