Intel and AMD slip after Nvidia reveals PC processor

·1 min read

Intel and Advanced Micro Devices shares fell about 4.2% in Monday premarket trading after Nvidia unveiled its first PC processors, intensifying competitive concerns in a market the two chipmakers have long dominated.

At Computex 2026 in Taipei, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang introduced the N1X processor, developed with Microsoft. The processor will be incorporated into a new RTX Spark chip and is set to appear in upcoming Windows computers from Microsoft, Dell, HP, ASUS, Lenovo, and MSI. Huang said the effort represented the first major reinvention of the PC in 40 years.

The announcement overshadowed Intel’s own Computex update, where the company unveiled the Xeon 6+ CPU built on its 18A process. Intel said the flagship 6990E+ delivers an average 30% per-thread performance improvement compared with AMD’s 192-core Epyc 9965, along with up to 30% better power efficiency. Intel also said its next-generation Xeon 7 CPUs, codenamed Diamond Rapids, are slated to launch in 2027.

Stocktwits retail sentiment was bearish on Intel and bullish on AMD as traders weighed Nvidia’s entry into the PC chip market. Some discussion also turned to potential pressure on Apple, which designs its own chips.
